JS 718.7001 - Scientific Research Methods for Judges (Spring 2018)

Students will explore various quantitative and qualitative research designs and data collection methods used in the social sciences, including experiments and quasi-experiments, field and observational studies, secondary data analysis, content analysis, survey methodology, and evaluation research.  Students will also learn about inherent threats to internal and external validity, and sampling techniques commonly used in social science research.  An overview of basic statistics concepts will be included.  Students will apply this knowledge to the development of a research proposal related to a research area of interest. Students will also learn basic skills needed to critically evaluate research.
